| Well, I got my stitches out on Thursday and it hurt worse than the actually surgery! I do have some good news though---it is not melanoma! But it IS an inflammation of some kind, something the doctor said usually shows up in the lungs. I am puzzled by that, but will be asking my family doctor about it when she gets the results from the surgeon. Meanwhile, we found out that Tiffany has come down with latent tuberculoses. She is currently undergoing a nine month drug treatment to kill the tb in her system. Because it is latent, she cannot pass it on to someone else, which is a good thing, and she doesn't have any symptoms other than a positive tb test. After the nine months, it is my understanding that she should be free of the latent tb and will be fine. The only problem is that the drug therapy is often very hard on the liver and can cause some other health problems. Her doctor at least did put her on the best possible drug, instead of some of the other drugs that have been known to cause hepititis and even death! We were very concerned about which drug therapy she was going to be put on, but are thankful that it was the one that is most widely used in the U.S. Tiffany is handling all this very well, and is trusting the Lord for her health to return.

| Yesterday I had eye surgery :( (on my birthday, too!) I had to have something cut out of my lower eyelid to have it checked for melanoma. I have had melanoma in the past, so this is something I have had to do several times. The doctor checks about everything that needs to be taken off. It really was a simple surgery, but today my eye looks blackened and is swollen. It looks a lot worse than it really is. I get the stitches out next week. I'm not worried about it being melanoma because the odds are in my favor. If it DOES turn out to be melanoma, then I will have to have a much larger area taken out, and some plastic surgery done. Maybe I'll get a new face! :)

| (I forgot to mention that "the bush" is in Papua New Guinea.) Anyway, Tiffany has taught in a school, has some mid-wifery experience, knows her Bible, and GFA feels she is the best candidate to fill this ministry. They told her that they know she is called to the Philippines, but that if she could help them out in the bush for one to two years, then she could return to the Philippines if she so chooses. Tiffany feels that the Lord is now calling her to the bush in Papua New Guinea, and she is going to obey his calling. This means a big change for her; she will miss her friends she has made in the Philippines, and will most likely miss some special important family events that she should be at in the future. This makes us all very sad. Plus, my mom and dad, whom Tiffany is very close to, are not in the best health and are aging quickly, so Tiffany will probably never see them again after leaving in January. There are many things that Tiffany and our family are saddened about due to this change of direction for Tiffany. We will not be able to contact her. She will not have a computer available to Skype us or even to email us. We might be able to hear from her once in a while, if and when she makes the dangerous journey into a city for supplies. Please pray for Tiffany (and us) if it comes to mind, okay? I know that I really haven't explained very well all the emotions and decisions that have had to be made from all of this. It's too hard to express it on paper, but I felt that I needed to share my heart at this time. We all need prayers, guidance, comfort, and peace right now. Thank you for your friendship to us through the Lord. We DO support Tiffany and her decision. We want her in God's will. That doesn't mean it is easy, but the Lord knows all about it. Thank you for listening!

| Have any of you had so much emotion in your heart that you don't even know how to share it? I do. This happens to me often. It's usually about Tiffany. I can't really explain how hard it is to be without her, even though we would not want her to do anything different than what the Lord asks of her. We knew when she was young that she was being called to the mission field. I remember well the day that she watched Eetow (a New Tribes Mission video about the tribal people in Papua, New Guinea, and how they had come to know and love the Lord) and when the video was finished, she turned to me and stated very firmly, "That's what I want to do!" She never, ever wavered from that, and devoured books about Missionaries, whatever she could get her hands on. On a recent Skype night of getting to talk and see her on the computer, she tearfully told us that, yes, she still would be coming home on Sept. 4th, as planned, but she could only stay for 4 months. It appears that the Lord needs her out in the bush (8 to 12 hours away from any city on a good day) where there is a tribe of believers. She has been emailed by GFA (her mission board) and they have asked her to consider going there in January to help for one to two years at the school, clinic and church. There were previously two missionary families in that area, however, one family was injured in a car accident and had to leave. This has left the other family very short- handed and they and the tribal people have been praying for months for someone to come and help them. Not many people want to come and live in the bush because it is a difficult life, but Tiffany said that "I can!" She would have to collect rain water for cooking and bathing, cook on a wood stove, live off the land for vegetables, etc. The remaining missionary family emailed Tiffany and told her they really need her. They said that they make a trip into the city ( the 8 to 12 hour trip) one time a month to buy supplies. They also said living in the bush is difficult, but they would be so glad to have Tiffany come and help teach in their small school that has had to close down, and help in their clinic, and church, etc. They told the tribal people that Tiffany might come and help, and they were very happy. Tiffany feels torn because she feels called to the Philippines, but they have many missionaries there to do the work needed, and the tribal people need her, so she feels that the Lord is calling her there.

| Well, I've lost 11 lbs. now ( and have so many more to go). We couldn't last the whole two weeks on just meats and salads with no carbohydrates so after a week and a half, we switched to Phase 2 and started having whole grains with our meals. We still continued to lose so it didn't hurt us any. We are not going to follow the diet on Monday because we're having company over (that's our excuse)--we're having lasagna (with NO lettuce salad because we are a little tired of it) with green beans and corn on the cob. :) We have had to go off the diet a few times, but I think the key to it is to just go back on and not continue eating unhealthily. Tara is in Las Vegas right now with the Walthers and is having a wonderful time attending the Miss America prelimenaries. She and Michelle have been very close since they were little girls together, and have always called each other 'best friends'. Tara called this morning and asked us to pray for Katie, Miss Utah. She is a strong Morman, but Michelle spent 30 minutes witnessing to her. Our church family is praying for Katie to have her eyes opened by the Holy Spirit and to see the Truth! Go, Michelle!!!
